The wave picks up SW swell at 5-8ft and throws both a workable right and a left that wraps progressively around the island at higher tide. All-tide functionality means you don't need to time it obsessively, though high tide pushes the action closer inshore for the inside left, and low tide favors the main peak further out. It suits confident intermediates through experienced surfers and rarely draws a crowd, partly because Rifles, Kandui, and Karangbat sit within a kilometer offering heavier alternatives. Bottom: coral reef, mostly deep and flat. Season: May through October. Consistency: high, almost always breaking with a rideable swell. Bring a small step-up if you're chasing the bigger days, but a standard shortboard handles the core size range comfortably.
The lineup stays quiet most of the time. The nearby resort does send guests out here, but the roster of heavier waves within a kilometer tends to pull the chargers away. Midweek is essentially empty. The northwest side of Panangalat is protected and worth exploring on arrival. When A-Frames feels too mellow, Rifles and Kandui are both within a kilometer and offer significantly more consequence and power. Karangbat and Four Bobs round out the immediate zone for a full Panangalat-area session.
