Kandui Villas sits on Nyang-Nyang Island in the Mentawai Islands, West Sumatra, Indonesia, within the area known as the Playgrounds. The property was founded in 2007 by the original founders of Kandui Resort and is operated by a partnership of American and Indonesian co-owners with decades of experience in surf exploration and resort management.
What makes it different
Kandui Villas runs an on-island organic greenhouse that supplies the restaurant directly, giving guests farm-to-table meals within a remote reef-break destination. The resort also offers a nanny service and documented tsunami preparedness protocols, which are uncommon inclusions at Mentawai surf properties.
Skill level
The resort states it caters to surfers of all skill levels and operates a surf school on site. That said, the surrounding Mentawai reef breaks are often powerful and fast, so intermediate to advanced surfers will get the most from the location.
