Left · ReefAdvanced4–10 ftApr – Oct

A hollow left that detonates off the takeoff and barrels hard over a shallow coral reef on Siberut Island in the Mentawais. SW to NW swells in the 4-8ft range are the sweet spot, though E-Bay handles up to double overhead and beyond when the ocean turns serious. Offshore trades keep it clean, and mid tide tends to square up the barrel rather than shut it down flat. This one is for experienced surfers only: crowds are minimal by Mentawai standards, meaning you will share the lineup with a small group of serious chargers, not a contest heat of beginners. Bottom: coral reef. Season: April through October, peak May to September. Consistency: mid-range, needs solid swell to wake up. The warble on the initial drop is real and will throw you if you hesitate, so commit fully and stay low through the first section or the lip lands on you.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Boat traffic in the Mentawais keeps the lineup from going empty, but E-Bay draws fewer surfers than nearby Beng-Beng or Pitstops because the wave demands commitment. On big days expect a tight crew of experienced riders and mutual respect. Standard Mentawai charter etiquette applies: read the rotation, don't snake, don't drop in.

Access & Facilities

Access is by charter boat or surf camp speedboat out of Siberut Island. No shore access. Bring reef booties if your feet are soft, and carry a solid supply of wax and spare leashes. The nearest consistent alternatives are a short boat ride away. Water is warm year-round, boardshorts or a 1mm spring suit is enough.

Nearby Alternatives

When E-Bay is too small or too big, Beng-Beng offers a more forgiving left that picks up swell first and handles a wider skill range. Pitstops, the right off the E-Bay peak, is worth a look on smaller days when E-Bay is not yet switched on. Nipussi is the most consistent option in the cluster and runs well in light swell conditions.
