Ritoque is where Chilean surfing was born, a north-end beachbreak peak near Concon with a reliable paddle channel that makes entry manageable even in winter. SW swell is the primary driver, with the window opening from S through NW, offshore winds are easterly to N. Best at medium-low tide, waist-high to slightly overhead, though the southern end stretches to 8ft and beyond when the swell has juice. The north peak suits a wide range of surfers, from beginners threading mellow, shouldery lefts to intermediates working the channel-flanking right. Crowds build on summer weekends and the vibe can tighten when it's small, so mid-week or winter dawn patrols reward patience. Bottom: sand. Season: year-round with peaks March through September. Consistency: high. Bring a full 3/2 or heavier in winter and do not underestimate how cold the Humboldt Current runs even when the sun is out.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Summer weekends pull a real crowd, and Forecasts rate the local vibe as "doable" with a note that it can get testy when the surf is small and inconsistent. Respect the channel and the established peak order. Weekday winter sessions are noticeably quieter and the reward for showing up in the cold.

Access & Facilities

Located between Concon and Quintero, roughly 30 minutes north of Viña del Mar. Sandy car park right at the beach. No facilities on site, so bring water and food. Dirt and quad bikes use the dunes behind the beach, so watch your step heading to and from the water.

Nearby Alternatives

When Ritoque is blown out or maxed, the Reñaca beachbreaks to the south offer a more sheltered option and stay popular with locals. Maitencillo to the north typically produces the best A-frames on this stretch of coast and is worth the extra drive if the swell is pumping.
