A barreling sand-bottom left point just south of Pichilemu, Infiernillo punches well above its postcode with hollow, high-speed walls that local big-wave charger Ramon Navarro has likened in quality to Punta de Lobos. SW swell is the key ingredient, with E winds keeping it clean, low tide accelerates the sections while higher water improves makability slightly. Best sized head-high to well overhead, the wave breaks over sand bridged across rocky protrusions, producing racetrack sections that reward commitment and punish hesitation. Honest intermediate-to-advanced territory: if the Pichilemu crew is out, expect them to be picking off the best ones. Bottom: sand with scattered rocks. Season: April to September. Consistency: high. Bring a fast, high-performance shortboard and resist the urge to stall into the barrel until you have it properly wired.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Moderate crowd, rated doable on the localism scale. After-school sessions can get competitive. Dawn patrol is the move for emptier lineups. Pichilemu locals will be prioritizing sets, so park your ego with your board bag, sit wide initially, and earn your place in the rotation.

Access & Facilities

Park at the base of the point. A surf school operates nearby. The paddle-out is consistently demanding regardless of tide, and getting caught on the inside is a near-certainty when it is running properly. Watch for the rocky protrusions under the sand. Water quality is clean with minor residential influence.

Nearby Alternatives

When Infiernillo is maxed or too fast, Punta de Lobos in Pichilemu is the obvious call for long, dredging sand-bottom barrels. La Puntilla in the adjacent bay to the north picks up slightly different swell angles and can be more manageable in moderate conditions.
