Soft, forgiving beachbreak peaks anchor this stretch of Lima's Costa Verde, where the lineup bleeds into Makaha on the north side of the pier and the two spots function as one shifting zone. SW to S swell at 2-6ft hits best at low to mid tide on the rise, once it pushes toward high, the wave goes fat and barely worth paddling for. NE offshore winds clean it up. Beginners and intermediates share the water here, and on weekends the crowd is real: surf schools compete for business in the parking lot, and the water can get hectic with learners. Bottom: beach. Season: March through October. Consistency: high. Use the paddling channel by the pier rather than slugging straight out from the centre of the beach to avoid a long, exhausting paddle. Bottom: beach. Season: March through October. Consistency: high. The historic Waikiki Surf Club, home to a remarkable collection of 20th-century Peruvian surfboards, sits right here and is worth arranging access to if you can befriend a member.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

This is one of Lima's most popular learner beaches and it shows. Weekends bring heavy crowds, multiple surf schools, and a chaotic mix of ability levels in the water. Dawn patrol or weekday sessions are the obvious move if you want space. Localism is minimal given the beginner-skewed lineup, but awareness in a crowded mix of learners is essential.

Access & Facilities

Paved carpark directly behind the beach, lifeguard cover, and surf school rentals on site. The pier provides a useful paddle channel. Water quality carries a commercial pollution flag, so be mindful after heavy rain. La Rosa Nautica restaurant sits on the pier itself if you want a post-surf meal.

Nearby Alternatives

When Waikiki goes fat at high tide, walk north of the pier to Makaha for better-defined reforms on the inside section. For something more structured and less crowded, Redondo's reliable left breaks just south of the pier. La Herradura, Lima's best pointbreak, is worth the drive south when a solid S swell fills in.
