A reliable right-hand reef in the Punta Hermosa zone, about 38km south of Lima on the old Panamericana, Caballeros is the most consistent righthander in this stretch of coastline and works on S, SSW, and SW swells from 3ft through solid 8ft-plus. Offshore winds come from the NE to E, and mid-incoming tide is the sweet spot, though the wave functions across all tides with some rocks breaking up the surface at low unless size fills in the gaps. The wave opens with a punchy, sucking takeoff before walling and shouldering across the reef, with hollow sections developing inside. Intermediate surfers get the most out of it, and experienced regular-footers will enjoy the speed and power on a good day. Bottom: rock and urchins. Season: April to September. Consistency: high. Rarely links all sections, but when it does, rides can stretch to 150m-plus, so be ready for a long paddle back using the mid-beach channel.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekend crowds are thick and this is a popular summer beach for Lima residents. The vibe is generally welcoming if you show respect and humility in the lineup. Picks are available along the whole line-up even when busy. Dawn patrol on weekdays significantly reduces the pressure. The crowd flows week to week with Lima's beach season traffic.

Access & Facilities

Access is from the El Silencio area. Park on the cliff top near the food stalls. There are steps down to the beach. No formal facilities at the break itself, but inexpensive local restaurants line the cliff top and are worth supporting. The upmarket residential area has restricted parking in spots, so the cliff-top stalls area is your best option. Watch for urchins on the reef and never turn your back on the ocean in the inside sections. Water quality is noted as clean for the area.

Nearby Alternatives

If Caballeros is too crowded or not firing, Señoritas breaks left with power just nearby and handles more size. Punta Rocas is the most consistent option in the wider zone but draws serious crowds. El Silencio has a variable right inside the northern headland cove for smaller days.
