A punchy, hollow right-hand reef peeling off the rocky island at the tip of Punta Hermosa, 43km south of Lima on the Panamerican. SW and W swells fire it up from March through September, with easterly winds keeping faces clean. It starts working at 3ft and holds well past double-overhead, making it one of the more reliable waves on this stretch of coast. Best at low tide, the right picks up steeply over a shallow rock platform, offering open walls for carves through to steep inside hooks and occasional cover-ups. A soft left peels off the same peak but rarely warrants priority. Hazards are real: urchin-crusted rock, sharp barnacles, and a 350m paddle from the beach. Bottom: submerged reef. Season: March to September. Consistency: high. Paddle out from the causeway end to cut significant distance off that haul.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekends and holidays bring heavy crowds. This is one of the few quality rights in the area, so competition for peaks is real. The local vibe is generally manageable rather than hostile, but foreign surfers, particularly Brazilians, have noted tension from some locals. Respect the lineup order, don't drop in, and keep attitude out of the water.

Access & Facilities

Right in front of the Punta Hermosa resort, with paid parking available. A lifeguard is on duty. Paddle out from the beach (350m) or shorten the swim by entering off the causeway connecting the island to shore. Urchins and barnacles make booties worth considering, especially on low tide. Accommodation and food options are available within the Punta Hermosa community.

Nearby Alternatives

Punta Rocas is the most consistent nearby option but draws even bigger crowds. Señoritas offers powerful, multi-section lefts a short distance south. When La Isla goes flat or maxes out, the beachbreak at Pulpos or San Bartolo's Playa Norte can fill the gap.
