A mellow beach break on Peru's southern coast, Playa La Entrada works best at high tide when slow-building peaks allow longer rides and the occasional tube section during the May-to-December swell season. Optimal conditions call for S to SW groundswell in the 3-8ft range with light offshore winds, at low tide the wave flattens out and becomes unsurfable, so timing your session is essential. The spot suits intermediates and above who can handle longer paddle-outs when sets push the lineup wide, though the relaxed local vibe and lack of real crowd pressure keeps things welcoming. Bottom: sand. Season: May-December for quality, January-April for warm water. Consistency: every second or third day. Arrive at high tide, watch where you park as the tide can push surprisingly far up the beach, and keep an eye on your gear.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Localism is essentially non-existent. Local surfers are genuinely welcoming to visitors, and weekday or weekend crowds stay light. Some local kids from nearby towns show up regularly, but the water rarely feels busy. A few words of Spanish go a long way here.

Access & Facilities

The beach sits roughly 15 minutes from Montanita along the coast road through Olon, San Jose and Las Nuñez. A 4x4 can reach the sand but park well back: tides run higher than expected. Facilities are minimal, so bring water and food. Wildlife sightings including manta rays, sea turtles, and small reef sharks are common.

Nearby Alternatives

When La Entrada isn't firing, a 15-minute walk south leads to La Rinconada, a more consistent option with stronger wave shape. Montanita itself offers multiple peaks and full services when you need a busier, more reliable session.
