A low-consistency beach that punches well above its weight when the right swell arrives, Playa Chilca sits on a long SW-facing stretch of Peruvian coastline south of Lima, anchored by the headland at Punta Lobos. W-NW swells at the right angle stack up on the sandbars and produce fast, makeable A-frame tubes that drew a Quicksilver contest in February 2012, when the organizers waited two full months for the right swell window to open. That waiting game tells you everything about consistency here. When a S swell dominates instead, rips become savage and faces can push 7-8m, making jet-ski assistance a serious consideration for anyone charging the outer banks. This is an expert-only proposition in any meaningful size. Bottom: sand. Season: W-NW swell windows, low annual consistency. Consistency: low. Bring a step-up and check swell direction carefully before committing to the drive from Lima.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Crowds show up sometimes, drawn by the same infrequent quality swells that make the spot worth checking. With low consistency and an expert reputation, the lineup stays manageable most sessions. When it is firing, expect some local knowledge advantage on the best peaks.

Access & Facilities

Drive south from Lima toward Pucusana. The northern corner of the beach offers the best access point for the main peaks. No facilities on site, so bring water and food. Free parking available. No reported pollution or major hazards outside of the severe rip currents that accompany S swells.

Nearby Alternatives

Punta Lobos to the south offers pointbreak options when beach conditions are unfavorable. The Lima region coast between Pucusana and the city holds several beachbreak and point options worth checking on the same swell run, including longer ride setups when S swells wrap around headlands further north.
