Pavos is a beachbreak in Lima's Barranco district that functions primarily as a bodyboard-only shoredump, where a deep inshore trough between the beach and the outside bar creates launch-ramp conditions unsuitable for stand-up surfing. It faces NW, meaning standard S to SW swells need to be sizeable to wrap into the bay, though NW swell also activates it. Offshore wind is NE. All tides are listed as rideable, but the shorebreak character means the wave changes little across the tidal range. The crowd is often present given the urban beach setting, and commercial pollution in the water is a known issue. Bottom: sand. Season: year-round with medium consistency. Skill minimum is expert, specifically expert bodyboarders comfortable with heavy, unpredictable shorebreak. Bring a solid bodyboard and fins, skip it on onshore winds, and treat the water quality here as a genuine deterrent for sessions involving wipeouts and hold-downs.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Barranco is a busy Lima neighbourhood and the beach draws regular foot traffic. Crowds are frequent. The bodyboard-heavy lineup has its own hierarchy. Dawn sessions reduce congestion but the shorebreak makes timing a set before dropping in critical regardless of crowd levels.

Access & Facilities

No facilities on site. The Barranco district has cafes and services a short walk away. Parking is available. Water quality is rated as commercially polluted, so rash vests, ear plugs, and avoiding ingesting water are practical precautions. The rocky stretches flanking the sandy beach can be a hazard when the shorebreak pushes you sideways.

Nearby Alternatives

If Pavos is closed out or the swell angle is wrong, Makaha and Sombrillas to the north offer more structured lefts that handle southerly swell better. La Herradura, south of Lima, is the area's best pointbreak and worth the extra drive when a solid SW swell is running.
