A road-hugging point break on Lima's Costa Verde coastline, Pampilla punches above its size class with proper tubes on mid-range swells and enough variety to keep both shortboarders and longboarders honest across a weekly tide cycle. SW and S swell from 2-6ft is the sweet spot, with low tide favouring small days and high tide unlocking the bigger sets before they close out. Offshore mornings are the move: afternoon onshores bring a conflicting second swell train that turns the lineup scrappy. Weekdays the beach is almost exclusively surfers, no sand, no swimmers, just a small kiosko selling wax and food. Weekends shift the crowd dial hard. Bottom: point-reef mix. Season: year-round, peak consistency Apr-Oct. Consistency: moderate to good. The current runs in a racetrack pattern between the two jetties, so time your paddle-out from the midpoint and let it work for you rather than against you.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekday sessions are quiet with a tight local crew. Weekends bring numbers and the lineup gets competitive. Localism isn't reported as heavy, but respect the knowledge gap: the current, the lineup, and the set rhythm take a few sessions to read correctly. Don't burn the locals learning that on a Saturday.

Access & Facilities

Drive the Costa Verde, pass La Rosa Náutica, and continue two beaches north. The break is roadside with parking at the cliff edge, a small kiosko, and no sand beach. Water quality on this stretch of Lima coastline can be variable, check conditions before paddling out. Full 2-3mm suit in winter (Jun-Sep), boardshorts or a shorty in Feb-Mar.

Nearby Alternatives

When Pampilla is too small or blown out, the broader Costa Verde has other beach and point options within a short drive along the same coastal road. Larger S swells that close out Pampilla may be better handled at more open-ocean breaks further south toward Punta Hermosa.
