A rocky-reef right inside the northern headland of El Silencio cove, this wave is inconsistent and temperamental but offers punchy surf when moderate S or, better still, W-NW swells push through. The optimal swell window runs S through NW, with a NE offshore wind keeping faces clean. Mid tide is the sweet spot: too low and sharp boulders and urchin-covered rocks start popping up, too high and the wave loses its shape. Intermediate surfers can handle the takeoff, though the sucky section over sharp boulders demands respect before the wave fattens on the shoulder and closes out on the sandy inside. Bottom: submerged reef. Season: works best when S and NW groundswells align, typically autumn through winter. Consistency: medium. Check the southern end of the beach for lefthand alternatives, and the headland toward Pulpos for La Timba if the main peak is disorganised.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

The lineup is rarely crowded, partly because better waves sit to the south and intermediates familiar with the region gravitate there. Bodyboarders are a consistent presence. The beach itself draws large summer crowds for the restaurants, nightlife, and seafood scene, but that energy stays on the sand.

Access & Facilities

A car park serves the beach and a lifeguard is on duty in season. Hazards include rips, rocks that emerge at low tide, and dense urchin populations among the boulders. Wear rubber booties. Seafood restaurants and bars line the beach, making this a comfortable base.

Nearby Alternatives

When El Silencio is disorganised, La Timba around the headland toward Pulpos can offer a cleaner option. Pulpos itself is a wide, exposed beachbreak that picks up swell from both S and N and tends to be more consistent. Further south, Punta Rocas is the region's most consistent wave, though expect a heavy crowd.
