A jetty-formed left in Lima's Barranco district, Barranquito breaks off a groyne on the Costa Verde stretch with a mixed boulder-and-sand bottom. S to SW swell is the bread-and-butter here, with NE offshore winds cleaning it up and all tides workable. The wave starts moving at under 3ft and holds to around 8ft, though it runs best in the 3-6ft range. Beginners and intermediates share the lineup on decent days, and weekends get crowded. Bottom: mixed boulder and sand. Season: March through September. Consistency: medium. Paddling in near the rocks on the side of the jetty is the easiest entry, and the wave typically looks longer from the clifftop road above than it actually rides.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekends pack out. Being a roadside beach directly in the Costa Verde circuit, it draws a mixed crowd of learners, improvers, and regulars. The lineup is generally mellow rather than heavy, but expect to share on any swell that gets the Costa Verde firing. Dawn patrol or weekday sessions are the obvious way to get more room.

Access & Facilities

Off the Circuito de Playas coastal road in Chorrillos, Lima. There is a dedicated car park and lifeguard cover. Commercial activity around the beach means some water-quality concerns, so check conditions after heavy rain. Facilities are basic but functional.

Nearby Alternatives

When Barranquito is flat or maxed out, Makaha and Waikiki to the north of the La Rosa Nautica pier offer a more consistent range of conditions. La Herradura, further south in its horseshoe bay, is the area's best pointbreak option when a solid southerly swell fills in.
