A submerged reef left off the tip of Playa Agua Dulce in Lima's Costa Verde, Ala Moana rewards patience when strong southern winter swells push through. It needs solid S swell to fire, works best with NE offshores, and runs all tides without much preference. Size range is 2-8ft, with the wave losing shape below knee-high and getting fast and hollow at the top end. Intermediate surfers will find the most enjoyment here, with occasional tubular sections keeping things interesting. The paddle-out is manageable via an easy channel, though the spot sits reasonably far out and a jetty-induced backwash can catch you off guard. Bottom: submerged reef. Season: Southern Hemisphere winter, June through October. Consistency: medium, needs committed swell to show up. Skip it on small summer days and prioritize it when a real S groundswell is running, since it quickly goes flat between swells.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Lineup pressure stays lower than neighboring Triangulo, which draws most of the Costa Verde crowd. On big winter swell days the vibe is relaxed by Lima standards. Weekends can see more surfers, but it's rarely overwhelming. The spot's moderate inconsistency naturally filters casual surfers.

Access & Facilities

Park in the Playa Agua Dulce car park, paddle out right of Triangulo and you'll spot it breaking. A lifeguard is present on the beach. Note commercial pollution in the water, common along Costa Verde. The jetty backwash is a real hazard on the paddle-back, especially in bigger surf.

Nearby Alternatives

When Ala Moana is flat, Triangulo next door catches more swell and handles a wider size range. La Herradura to the south is Lima's standout pointbreak and worth the extra drive when a serious S groundswell arrives.
