Fast, hollow beach-break peaks roughly 20 km northwest of Paita on Peru's northern coast, Yacila fires short but punchy barrels that bodyboarders and shortboarders chase when the Pacific swell lines up. Optimal conditions are a W to SW groundswell from 3 to 8ft with offshore winds, which are common along this stretch of the Peruvian desert coast. Tide doesn't play a huge role here since the break functions across the full tidal range, but cleaner faces tend to appear on the push. The lineup is genuinely quiet on weekdays and rarely crowded even on weekends, making it an honest escape from the circus at better-known North Peru setups. Bottom: sand. Season: April through October. Consistency: moderate, swell-dependent. Bring a fish or a shortboard with volume for the smaller days and a step-up when the swell climbs past 6ft because the barrels get quick and close-out-heavy in the upper size range.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

One of the genuinely empty stretches in North Peru. Weekdays you can realistically surf alone. Weekend traffic is still light by regional standards. Local surfers are few and the vibe is relaxed. Basic lineup etiquette is all you need.

Access & Facilities

Head north on the Pan-American Norte to Piura, then west toward the port town of Paita, and continue on the coastal road to Yacila. The village is small with minimal infrastructure. Bring water, sunscreen, and food. Shade is scarce and the sun is intense. No known rental shops on-site.

Nearby Alternatives

When Yacila is flat or closing out, Lobitos to the south offers longer right-hand point waves that handle a wider swell window. Cabo Blanco, also to the south, is worth checking for larger swells that fire its famous right-hand walls.
