A maverick left point sitting among oil derricks and offshore platforms north of Lobitos, Baterias punches harder and runs longer than the town breaks when S-SW swell fills in. It needs S in the swell to activate, handles 5-8ft before it starts testing paddling ability, and is more exposed to wind than neighbouring Lobitos so getting there early matters. Offshore winds are SE, and the wave reads differently at every tide: high tide breaks close to the rocky point with occasional connections to the middle peak, while low tide wedges the middle peak into a fast, powerful wall with legitimate tube sections and room for hard rail turns. It suits experienced intermediates on smaller days and rewards confident surfers who read difficult, fast-changing sections. Bottom: rocky point with scattered inside rocks. Season: year-round, most consistent in Southern Hemisphere swell season. Consistency: high. Watch the inside rocks at low tide and account for biting dogs on the beach approach.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

The beach is generally empty, even on weekends. The trek involved keeps casual surfers away. No heavy localism reported, but the wave demands respect. If the sections are firing and fast, priority in the lineup is earned by reading waves well, not by aggression.

Access & Facilities

No facilities on site. The walk south along the beach from El Hueco is long. Driving dirt roads toward the drilling compound above the break saves time and legs. Scramble down the cliff path and paddle out from the south corner, or jump off the rocks at high tide. Walking the beach back up after a session is easier than fighting the current. Biting dogs have been reported on the beach. Bring water.

Nearby Alternatives

El Hueco, just north, is a heavier reef barrel off the point tip and demands more experience. Lobitos town breaks are more forgiving and better shaped on smaller, cleaner days. Generales is the summer left when S swell struggles to penetrate the point.
