A long tubular left-hand point in the remote Bayovar headland of North Peru, Nonura delivers walls of 150-500m on a good day at a coastline that still feels genuinely isolated. SW to NW swell is the window, with SE offshore winds keeping faces clean, and the wave only starts revealing its true character above 5ft, holding quality up to 10-12ft before maxing out. This is expert territory: a long, grinding paddle against strong currents before you even reach the lineup, and hollow sections that demand commitment once you're out there. Crowds are possible now that operators run organised trips to the area, but the effort of getting here filters most surfers out. Bottom: point over sand. Season: March through September. Consistency: medium. Bring more wax than you think you need and be honest about your paddling fitness before committing to the channel battle on bigger swells.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Billed as empty on weekends in older reports, Nonura has seen more organised surf tourism push surfers into the lineup. It remains uncrowded by Peruvian standards, but the isolation no longer guarantees solitude. Respect the remoteness of the setting: fewer surfers, more space, but also fewer people around if something goes wrong.

Access & Facilities

Reach Bayovar via the Panamericana Norte, turning toward the terminal and continuing to the coast by 4WD only. No parking infrastructure, no towns nearby. Camping is the sole accommodation. Pack water, food, and fuel. The paddle out runs against strong currents so time your entry carefully and conserve energy.

Nearby Alternatives

Punta Tur, a bit further along the Bayovar headland, offers another quality left and can be worth checking if Nonura is not in its size window. Punta Faro and Reventazón on the south side of the Ilescas Reserve also pick up SW swell and provide options when conditions shift.
