A sheltered submerged reef off the north coast of Silabok Island gives improvers and cruisers a genuine break from the raw power firing at Iceland and Telescopes next door. The two reef setups here, locally called Muka Ikan and Tikus, pick up S-W swell at roughly half the size of the exposed breaks outside, and the orientation means SE winds blow clean and offshore. Mid-range swell of 2-6ft is the sweet spot, and the wave works across all tides, making logistics simple. The wave suits beginners moving toward intermediate surfing, offering walls, shoulders, and the occasional low-consequence cover-up without the heavy consequence of the surrounding reefs. Bottom: submerged reef. Season: April to October. Consistency: medium. Access is almost exclusively through Aloita Resort on the island, so crowd pressure is minimal by default, but that arrangement also means non-guests rarely surf here.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Guest-only access through the resort keeps the lineup almost empty by Mentawai standards. On a busy boat season day you may share it with a handful of resort guests. No meaningful localism to report. That low crowd pressure is one of the genuine draws for surfers who want to progress without a competitive lineup.

Access & Facilities

Silabok sits close to the Mentawai capital Tua Pajet on Siberut, which has air and ferry links from Padang. Practically speaking, you will be staying at Aloita Resort to surf here. No public parking, no public facilities. The reef is coral so booties are worth considering for entry and exit.

Nearby Alternatives

When swell fills in and you want more size and speed, Iceland and Telescopes are the obvious step up. For a different angle when the wind swings, the various reef setups around Pitojat and the North Pagai chain are within charter range.
