A long-walling right-hand reef on the north coast of Pagai Selatan, Lighthouse wraps S-SW swells around the island in pointbreak fashion, delivering 200-500m of down-the-line speed. Optimal swell is S-SW, with a W quadrant wind required since the break faces the same direction as Lances Right. Mid-range to solid surf runs best from 3-8ft, but the wave transforms into heaving power pockets above 10ft with cover-ups and genuine consequence. Intermediate surfers will find plenty to work with on smaller days, but size and reef demand respect. Bottom: submerged reef. Season: southern hemisphere swell window, most active April-October. Consistency: medium. The 46ft lighthouse behind the break offers one of the more unique photo angles in the Mentawais, worth the climb on a firing day.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Charter traffic in the Mentawais concentrates heavily on marquee breaks. Lighthouse sees fewer boats than the headline spots, keeping the lineup relatively uncrowded. Arrive with respect for any crew already in the water and follow standard boat-trip etiquette in the area.

Access & Facilities

Access is exclusively by boat, typically via liveaboard charter or day trip from a nearby resort. No parking, no facilities, no food or water ashore. Carry reef booties given the submerged coral, and pack more wax than you think you need. The lighthouse itself is climbable for photographers.

Nearby Alternatives

When S-SW swell is not wrapping cleanly, the nearby north-wind escape spots to the north of Pagai Selatan can hold shape with more W in the swell. On smaller or more marginal days, the protected rights on the lee side of Pulau Sanding offer a softer option for the same fleet.
