A long right-hand pointbreak running along the coastal road between Ajaccio and Punta di a Parata, Route des Sanguinaires delivers purposeful walls over shallow reef with a wide swell window that keeps it in play more often than most Corsican setups. SW through NW swell angles work here, with N winds going offshore and protection from heavy NW'ers keeping the surface clean when the rest of the island gets blown out. Waves run 100-200m at best, breaking with enough push to reward carving but demanding enough respect that beginners have no business paddling out. The shallow reef is the headline hazard, and the lineup draws crowds regularly when it's on. Bottom: reef. Season: autumn through spring. Consistency: medium. Dawn patrol timing cuts the crowd pressure significantly, so arrive early when the swell clock is ticking.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

This spot draws crowds often, particularly when neighbouring breaks are blown out and the swell window makes it the obvious call on the west Ajaccio coast. Intermediate and above surfers make up the bulk of the lineup. Respect the locals who know these reefs well, keep your priority etiquette clean, and avoid paddling to the peak blind on busy days.

Access & Facilities

Free parking lines the Route des Sanguinaires coastal road, making access straightforward. No facilities on site, so bring water and food. The road between Ajaccio and Parata point passes several reef and point setups, meaning a short drive can reveal alternatives if this one is maxed or overcrowded. Watch the shallow reef on the way in and out.

Nearby Alternatives

The stretch between Ajaccio and Punta di a Parata holds multiple reefs and pointbreaks, including spots near Chapelle des Grecs and Cimetière, most producing long right-handers in similar conditions. When SE swell fills in, check the Figari bay area to the south for beachbreak options.
