A jetty-influenced beachbreak near Fréjus that occasionally produces surprisingly powerful surf when E or NE winds drive swell into this otherwise sheltered stretch of the French Riviera coast. The harbour breakwalls and jetties help hold sandbanks, giving the peaks more shape than a raw beachbreak would have here, though genuine quality days are rare. Offshore in Mistral (W/NW) conditions, it works best with NE through S swell in the 5-6ft-plus range, with the lineup really only firing when a strong E wind has been running for a while. Intermediate surfers are the target audience, the wave has enough punch to reward experience but the inconsistency means dedicated sessions are a gamble. Bottom: sand with rocks. Season: autumn and winter swells, Oct-Feb. Consistency: low. Dawn patrol in winter gives you the best chance of catching it between wind cycles.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

One of very few recognised surf spots in the Fréjus area, which concentrates the local crew here whenever conditions align. Weekends draw a crowded lineup for a wave that rarely delivers, so arrive early or accept the wait. The crowd-to-quality ratio can be frustrating given the low consistency.

Access & Facilities

From Fréjus-Saint-Raphaël, head toward Saint-Tropez on the coast road. A car park sits next to the small harbour. Restrooms available nearby. Note commercial activity in the area contributes some water pollution, check conditions after heavy rain. Rocks are present in the break, worth scouting at low tide before paddling out.

Nearby Alternatives

The Boulouris-Cap Dramont stretch east of here hides a few reefs worth exploring when the swell direction suits. Further along toward Cannes and Saint-Tropez, a handful of lesser-known beach and reef setups offer variety when Galiote isn't delivering.
