Corsica's most exposed beachbreak sits at Algajola, a small village on the northwest coast between Calvi and Ile Rousse, catching W-NW swells that the rest of the island misses. Works on offshore southerly winds with W to NW swell from 2ft up to overhead-plus, and handles any tide. Hollow and fast on a straight NW with decent period, it can peel for surprising length on the right day despite normally short rides. Intermediate surfers will feel at home here, though currents can make it more demanding than it looks, and the lineup draws a crowd when waves arrive. Bottom: sand. Season: autumn and winter. Consistency: medium. Pack a 3/2 wetsuit for winter sessions and expect the wind to shift fast when the Mistral kicks in.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

The lineup can get busy when the swell turns on, as it is one of the few reliable surf windows in this part of Corsica. Currents run through the break and demand awareness. Beginners should look elsewhere, both for safety and to keep the lineup manageable for those with the experience to handle the conditions.

Access & Facilities

Algajola is visible from the main D81 coast road heading between Calvi and Ile Rousse. A car park sits behind the beach, and large campsites, surf schools, and shops are all nearby, making this one of the better-serviced setups on the island. Water quality raises no concerns.

Nearby Alternatives

When Algajola closes out, Aregno Beach a short drive away handles W-NW swell in lighter conditions and is often less chaotic. The points near Ile Rousse are worth a look in strong Mistral, offering a playful right on the north side of the town beach.
