A fickle beach break wedged between the Nice international airport and the Var river delta, this spot occasionally delivers short, punchy peaks when winter swells push in from the S or SW. It needs a solid S, SW, or SE swell to get going, and even then waves rarely exceed 2-3ft on most visits. A low tide push can improve shape, though the structured data rates it as working across all tides. Expect a crowded lineup whenever it does fire: localism is reported as heavy, and beginners are openly unwanted by the regulars. On the rare good day, the swell refracts off the river mouth geography to produce short tubular peaks, but "good day" is the operative phrase here. The Var river can generate strong lateral currents in winter, particularly toward the right side of the break, making positioning a genuine safety concern after heavy rainfall. Bottom: beach. Season: winter only. Consistency: low.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

This is one of the most localised lineups on the Côte d'Azur. Community reports are unambiguous: the crew is territorial, and beginners will face hostility. Visit on weekday mornings if you have to go at all, and read the lineup before paddling out. This is not a spot for learning or casual sessions.

Access & Facilities

The beach is reachable via central Nice, near the airport and Var river mouth. Cap 3000 shopping centre is a nearby landmark for orientation. Town facilities are plentiful but the beach itself has no dedicated surf infrastructure. Check river conditions before surfing if there has been recent rainfall upstream.

Nearby Alternatives

When Nice is flat, the same swells that light it up occasionally produce rideable conditions at Antibes or Cannes Palm Beach, though those are more reliable for kiteboarding than surfing. Villefranche-sur-Mer picks up S swell in deep winter but works even less frequently.
