Rocky Point is the most consistent wave on Oahu's North Shore, a flat curving reef roughly 250 yards wide that breaks on nearly any winter swell direction from WNW to N. Optimal size runs chest-high to three feet overhead, where the reef produces a wide menu: soft walls, clean barrels, and punchy air sections across multiple peaks and takeoff zones. It divides broadly into Rocky Rights and Rocky Lefts, but within that framework are at least five distinct sub-peaks shifting with swell angle and size. Light E to S winds are ideal, though the typical ENE trades are workable if not too strong. Mid-tide is the sweet spot, though Rockies handles all tides. Intermediate to advanced surfers will find their range here, beginners should be honest about their ability because this reef is shallow, fast, and unforgiving at any size. The crowd is heavy whenever it's good, and the local vibe is legitimately intimidating. Bring humility, wait your turn, and earn your waves.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Crowd rated a 9 out of 10 and localism an 8 out of 10. Those numbers are accurate. Weekends and solid winter swells draw a packed, competitive lineup. Weekdays in marginal swell can be surprisingly quiet. Respect the hierarchy, do not snake, and do not drop in. This is not a lineup to test your social skills.

Access & Facilities

Drive about half a mile past Ehukai Beach Park on Kamehameha Highway, turn onto Ke Nui Road, and park only in authorized spots. Public access paths lead to the beach. Getting in and out over the reef during larger swells requires timing. Rocky Rights has a specific rock on the inside that has caught surfers out, know where it is before paddling out.

Nearby Alternatives

Pipeline and Backdoor sit just down the beach and handle similar swell windows at higher consequence. Sunset Beach to the northeast is the call when size climbs above double overhead and you want more room to work with.
