One of Waikiki's most recognizable reef peaks, Queen's sits mid-South Shore and delivers an A-frame that splits into a longer left and a workable right on most days. On smaller S to SW swell, it runs head-high with a fun, rippable face accessible to a wide range of surfers. When size builds to 2X overhead and beyond, the left stretches into one of the better walls on this stretch of Oahu, occasionally barreling before it backs off. NE to E winds are straight offshore here, making early mornings the cleanest window. High tide fills in the reef nicely, low tide can expose sections that punish a poor line. Bottom: reef. Season: April through October on south and southwest swells. Consistency: reliable through summer. The crowd is heavy year-round because every Waikiki break is, so arrive at dawn if you want breathing room and expect to get dropped in on regardless of skill level.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

This is one of the most crowded lineups in Hawaii, full stop. The local crew is generally decent about it, but the sheer volume of surfers means drop-ins are routine, not exceptions. Longboarders, shortboarders, and beginners all share the peak. Dawn patrol is not optional if you want quality waves to yourself. Respect the pecking order, don't paddle past established surfers to the peak, and keep your head on a swivel.

Access & Facilities

Park at or near Kuhio Beach Park, a short walk to the water. The beach is well-serviced with restrooms, showers, and food options nearby. A rescue station at this zone carries AEDs and bleeding kits through the Adopt a Cove program. The reef is the main hazard: stay aware of your position relative to shallow sections on the way in. The channel makes paddling out manageable.

Nearby Alternatives

When Queen's is blown out or unmanageably crowded, Canoes just to the west offers longer, more forgiving rides suited to longboards and high-volume boards. Publics, further along the South Shore, can provide a quieter option on the same swell, particularly for those willing to walk.
