A right-hand reef break sitting just west of Jocko's and east of the main Laniakea takeoff zone on Hawaii's North Shore, Hultin's works best on NW to NNE swell at overhead to double-overhead-plus. Light to moderate ENE to S winds keep the face clean. Mid tide is the sweet spot. Intermediate surfers can handle it on smaller days, but when size builds, this is advanced-only territory. The paddle-out is genuinely long, and swinger sets that close out the whole lineup will test your fitness and positioning before a wave even crosses your path. Bottom: reef. Season: winter (Nov-Feb). Consistency: hit or miss, but at least a handful of surfers will be out whenever it's breaking. A gun or step-up is the right call when this spot pushes into double-overhead-plus range, and turtling through closeout sets without reading the current first is a fast way to end your session early.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Crowd levels run moderate. On any given day Hultin's is breaking, expect at least a handful of surfers in the water. Humility and respect are appreciated in this lineup, same as the rest of the North Shore. Treat the local crew well, read the hierarchy, and earn your waves.

Access & Facilities

Park in the dirt lot on the inland side of Kam Highway, directly across from Laniakea beach. Access is straightforward. The paddle-out is long, and the paddle back compounds the shoulder burn. Hazards include reef, sharks, strong currents, and swinger sets that close out the full lineup. Water quality is generally clean, with intermittent run-off during heavy rain.

Nearby Alternatives

Laniakea itself is the obvious fallback when Hultin's isn't connecting. When the swell is more westerly or you want something more defined, check Jocko's to the east or further down the coast toward Haleiwa.
