PKs and Centers deliver a forgiving, reef-based wave on Kauai's south shore, sitting directly off the Beach House Restaurant in Poipu. SW to SSW swells in the 2-6ft range light this spot up best, with offshore NE trade winds keeping faces clean through most of the year. It handles all tides and stays fun from ankle-high reform to overhead, though past 6ft the crowd gets pushed toward more experienced surfers. The wave suits a wide skill range, from south-side groms learning their first cutbacks to visiting longboarders wanting warm-water slides, and the lineup rarely gets heavy during the week. Bottom: reef. Season: year-round, peaking in summer south swells. Consistency: reliable. Locals own this lineup, so read the pecking order carefully, take only your turn, and let sets go if you're unsure of the unspoken rotation.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekday crowds are light by Hawaiian standards. Weekends bring local families and competitive surfers who have grown up on these waves. Localism is real, as it is across Kauai's south side. Don't snake sets, don't paddle out in a group, and don't act like you're entitled. Surf contests happen here regularly, check before paddling into a comp heat.

Access & Facilities

Poipu is straightforward to reach by car from Lihue. The Beach House Restaurant is a reliable landmark. Street parking is available nearby. Food and water at the restaurant. No major shore hazards beyond the reef at low tide, though the water is warm and boardies are fine most of the year.

Nearby Alternatives

Acid Drops and Lawai are within close range when PKs is flat or crowded. If south swell is pumping and you want a step up in quality and consequence, the rest of the Poipu corridor has options worth exploring on your own.
