A steep, bowly right-hander peeling off the easternmost section of the Ala Moana reef, Kaiser's is one of Oahu's South Shore summer standouts. South to SW swell from around SE to SW is the window, with NE winds blowing straight offshore for the cleanest faces. Best from chest-high to well overhead, the peak throws a legit barrel section off the top and rewards those who can backdoor the ledge. The left exists but tends to slope off and close out on the inside, leaving you scraping over shallow reef with no channel exit. The right spills into a channel, which is your friend for paddle-back efficiency. Medium tide is optimal. At low tide, sunken vessels converted to artificial reef push metal poles dangerously close to the surface. April through October is the reliable window. Season: summer. Consistency: moderate to high during south swells. Bring a board that can handle a fast, ledgey drop. The crowd here is not a casual inconvenience. It is relentless, competitive, and experienced. Go at dawn on a weekday or stay home.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

This lineup is heavy. Weekends push the crowd into ultra-crowded territory. The local vibe is described as intense and competitive, not hostile to respectful visitors, but there is no room for hesitation or poor wave selection. If you cannot read a fast hollow reef break confidently, this is not the spot to learn. Dawn patrol weekdays give you the best shot at manageable crowds.

Access & Facilities

Park at Ala Moana Boat Harbor parking lot and walk the east breakwater to the end, then paddle out through the channel. Alternatively, paddle from the small beach near the parking lot across the reef platform, which gets sketchy at low tide. A rescue station equipped with AEDs and emergency supplies is on-site through the Adopt a Cove program. Water is generally clean.

Nearby Alternatives

When Kaiser's is maxed out or the crowd is unworkable, the broader Ala Moana reef has other peaks worth checking. Bowls and Concessions sit just to the west and offer similar South Shore swell exposure with slightly different crowd dynamics depending on the day.
