An A-frame reef break sitting just off the 7th hole of the Kahuku Golf Course, where the North Shore turns into the Windward Side, this spot delivers both a punchy left and a wrapping right when conditions align. A deep channel splits the two waves, which also makes the paddle-out manageable but adds a notable sharky dimension to the session. Optimal conditions require N to NE winter swell combined with offshore winds from a passing front. Without that front, persistent onshore trade winds shred the surface for most of the year, especially through summer. Skill level scales hard with size: on a mellow day it's accessible to a range of surfers, but when it's on, intermediate ability is the floor. Bottom: reef. Season: winter best, surf year-round on tradeswell. Consistency: moderate, with clean windows rare but worthwhile. Bring a fish or mid-length for smaller trade-swell days, and step up to a gun when winter swells push overhead-plus.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Localism is relaxed here, and the lineup stays quiet for good reason: trade winds keep most days messy and the paddle is long. When winds go offshore on a weekend, expect a crowd to materialize fast. Show up early, be cool in the lineup, and the vibe should stay mellow. The channel provides a natural reset point and reduces drop-in pressure.

Access & Facilities

Access is through the Kahuku Golf Course near the 7th hole. No formal facilities at the break. The paddle is long but sheltered somewhat by the channel. Currents can run, and the reef has urchins. The channel is known to attract sharks, stay aware, especially in low light. Water quality is clean.

Nearby Alternatives

When trade winds are killing conditions at Kahuku, look toward the North Shore proper where swell-exposed beaches and reefs may have better wind angle. On smaller, trade-swell days, mellow beach breaks along the Windward Side offer a lower-consequence option.
