A punchy Palm Beach beachbreak that punishes the inattentive, Sunrise delivers rights and lefts off shifting sandbars when NE to NNE swell fills in at waist-to-overhead size. Low to mid tide is the window: too much water and the banks go soft, too little and exposed rocks become the headline. WNW wind is ideal, cleaning up faces that can get surprisingly hollow when a chunky NE swell lines up. SE windswell days can also produce fun, if messy, peaks. This suits intermediates through advanced surfers who can read the banks and time their take-offs, though the inside is welcoming enough on tiny days for beginners. Crowds run moderate, localism is mellow, but parking on the street can try your patience in peak season. Bottom: sand over rocks. Season: fall through spring, with hurricane swells a bonus. Consistency: moderate. If you get stuck on the wrong bank during a set, the shorebreak will remind you to pay attention.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Expect moderate crowds on any decent swell, especially weekends. Localism is relaxed by Florida standards. The usual etiquette applies: read the pecking order, don't snake sets, and give respect to regulars who know which banks are producing. Dawn patrol gives you the best chance of open peaks before the masses arrive.

Access & Facilities

Beach access is straightforward with public entry points along the Palm Beach coastline. Street and lot parking can be genuinely frustrating on busy days, so arrive early or mid-week. Water is clean. Watch for jellyfish, sea lice, and the standard Florida shark population. No cause for alarm, but stay sharp.

Nearby Alternatives

When Sunrise is maxed out or the banks are blown, the broader Palm Beach stretch has multiple peaks worth checking in the same swell window. Lake Worth Pier and other county beach breaks along A1A pick up similar NE swell and can offer a better bank on any given day.
