A sand-bottom right point tucked at the southern tip of a remote peninsula on Florida's Panhandle, Cape San Blas punches above its weight for the Gulf Coast. SSE through SSW swells wrap around the cape and peel into a right-hander that can produce surprisingly long walls for a beach setup. Light outgoing tide is the sweet spot. NNE to E winds keep the face clean. Best size is waist to overhead, and the wave handles that range well across a broad skill set. The lineup is genuinely uncrowded because the access requires a 20-minute walk from the parking area, which filters out anyone not motivated. Bottom: sand point. Season: fall through spring, with hurricane swells adding size. Consistency: moderate, swell-dependent. Bull sharks are a documented, serious hazard here, not a rumor, so be aware and stay calm in the water.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

The 20-minute walk from parking means the lineup is almost always empty or very low-key. Localism is non-existent. If you do share the water, the vibe is welcoming. The real crowd pressure here is zero, which makes it one of the more peaceful lineups on the Gulf Coast.

Access & Facilities

Park at the cape access area and walk roughly 20 minutes down the beach to reach the point. Facilities are minimal, so bring water, sunscreen, and anything you need for the session. The Emerald Coast water is clean and visually striking. The primary hazard is bull sharks, which have a known presence in this area. Surf smart, avoid dawn and dusk sessions if you want to reduce risk.

Nearby Alternatives

Mexico Beach to the northwest offers beachbreak peaks when Cape San Blas lacks swell angle. St. George Island to the southeast has additional exposed sand-bottom options that pick up similar SSE and S swell windows.
