A north-facing shorebreak on Florida's Gulf Coast, Belleair picks up weak cold fronts and NW swells that Indian Rocks Beach misses entirely. Best conditions arrive with NW swell, incoming tide, and NE to ENE winds keeping faces clean, with rideable surf from thigh-high up to just overhead. The wave breaks as a short, punchy beach break over a shallow sandbar, throwing up quick lefts and rights that suit beginners through intermediates on any given day. Access is the honest catch here: the break sits inside a private residential area with virtually no public parking, so getting wet at all requires creative footwork. Bottom: sand. Season: fall through spring, with hurricane swells adding occasional summer juice. Consistency: low to moderate. If you manage to park without getting ticketed or towed, shuffle your feet wading out and stay aware of stingrays and the occasional shark working the sandbar.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

The lineup itself is mellow with near-zero crowd pressure on most days. The real friction is on land: residents monitor parking and access closely. Come with respect, sort out your parking legally before hitting the water, and you will have no issues in the surf.

Access & Facilities

Park legally or you risk a fine or tow. The break sits along a private residential stretch south of Sand Key. Belleair Beach Motel is a useful landmark when driving south. No facilities on site. Water is generally clean outside of occasional red tide events, which can shut the session down fast.

Nearby Alternatives

If Belleair is flat or access proves impossible, Indian Rocks Beach to the north picks up similar swell on stronger fronts and has easier parking. Sand Key Park just north is another option with better facilities and consistent beach break peaks when conditions align.
