Ground zero for Gulf Coast surfing, Venice Jetties North pulls in the biggest swells on Florida's west coast and packs in the crowds to match. Hard-packed sandbars keyed into rock jetties produce wedgy, punchy peaks that react well to SW, W, and NW swells in the 2-7ft range. NE to E winds are ideal, keeping faces clean. This spot handles the full spectrum of ability levels, but be ready for a frantic, tightly packed lineup the moment waves hit knee-high. Bottom: sand over jetty structure. Season: September through March. Consistency: as reliable as West Florida gets. Arrive at dawn to steal a peak before the crowds arrive, and keep your head up in the water since broken boards and inexperienced surfers make stray fiberglass a genuine hazard.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Expect heavy crowds any time surf is present. Anonymous kooks outnumber the resident crew, which keeps overt localism manageable, but the chaos is its own hazard. Priority is informal at best. Patience and situational awareness matter more than pecking order here.

Access & Facilities

Free public parking is available near the jetties. Water quality tests clean the vast majority of the time despite heavy coastal development and historical oil exposure. Heat stroke is a real concern in summer months. Watch for lightning, which can shut down the Gulf in minutes, and stay alert to broken boards in a crowded, multi-level lineup.

Nearby Alternatives

When the North Jetties are maxed out or too chaotic, the South Jetties can offer faster, hollower alternatives on NW swells. Caspersen Beach to the south occasionally sees sand-bottom peaks with fewer people on smaller, cleaner days.
