Panama City Beach's most consistent sandbars sit inside St. Andrews State Recreation Area, anchored by a jetty that shapes one of the Gulf's better hollow lefts. On offshore NNE-to-E winds with a SE-to-SSW swell running waist to overhead, the west jetty peak throws fast, ruler-edged walls that can link all the way to shore on a good day. A second peak a few hundred yards west offers both outside walls for longboarders and a punchy inside suited to shortboards and fish. The two breaks spread the crowd enough to keep the lineup manageable even when swells are pumping, though weekends and hurricane pulses bring heavy traffic. Bottom: sand. Season: fall through spring, plus hurricane season. Consistency: the go-to spot for PCB area surfers. Show up at dawn to beat the gate fees and the pack, and avoid standing inside the impact zone when you're not riding.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekday sessions are manageable, but weekends bring heavy crowds and a competitive atmosphere. Most locals are hospitable, but territorial exceptions exist, particularly when swells are firing. Summer also draws beachgoers who plant themselves in the impact zone, unaware of right-of-way. Knowing the two-break layout and picking the less-occupied peak goes a long way toward keeping sessions civil.

Access & Facilities

Enter via St. Andrews State Recreation Area off Thomas Drive. There is a park entrance fee, rangers do enforce opening hours, so early entry attempts carry a real risk of being turned away. Parking, restrooms, and water are available inside the park. Water quality is consistently clean along this stretch of the Emerald Coast.

Nearby Alternatives

When the park is maxed out or the crowds are unbearable, Amazons and Shell Island both pick up similar SE-to-S swells and often have thinner lineups precisely because St. Andrews draws the bulk of the crowd. Both are worth checking as backup options on bigger pulse days.
