A sandseat break shaped by old pier pilings near Sandy Key Condominiums, just west of Johnson's Beach on Florida's Emerald Coast. It works best on E, SE, and S swells at mid to high tide, with NW to NE winds keeping faces clean. Size range is thigh to shoulder high, and the wave suits all skill levels, from learners on longboards to shortboarders working the outside peak. Crowd levels run moderate to heavy at times, though the local vibe is generally mellow and manageable. Bottom: sand. Season: fall through spring, with hurricane season delivering the most energy. Consistency: moderate year-round. The mid-break section is the most reliable option when the outside peak isn't connecting, so bring a fish or funboard for the smaller, punchier days.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Expect moderate crowds that can turn heavy on good days. Locals are generally welcoming, and the vibe rates as mellow compared to harder-edged lineups. Dawn patrol is your best bet for uncrowded peaks, especially during summer vacation months when the beach draws non-surfers and beginners alike.

Access & Facilities

Turn left off State Road 292 and take a right on Sandy Key Drive. Park along the road. Access is public. The Emerald Coast water is clean and clear. Watch for jellyfish and the occasional shark, standard sea life for this stretch of the Gulf.

Nearby Alternatives

Johnson's Beach sits just to the east and can offer similar beach break conditions when the sandbar here isn't cooperating. Elsewhere along the Panhandle, Pensacola Beach and Navarre Beach pick up comparable swells and are worth checking when this section goes flat.
