A jetty-sheltered sandbar on Florida's Gulf Coast that swaps personality depending on swell direction: S swell peels off the north end, N swell kicks a right off the south end, and that south-side right is the better wave by a clear margin. Best wind is E for clean faces, though the spot needs some onshore energy to generate surf at all. Works from thigh- to head-high, with low incoming tide the sweet spot. Any ability level can paddle out here, the crowd is genuinely mellow, and localism is essentially nonexistent. Bottom: sand. Season: fall through spring, with hurricane season producing the most consistent push. Consistency: moderate, works when bigger spots are flat or inaccessible. Be aware of red tide outbreaks, which flare occasionally and close the water, and give the breakwater rocks a wide berth on the paddle-out.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekdays and winter months are nearly empty. Hurricane season draws more surfers as regional spots fire, but pressure stays light compared to Sunset Beach or Upham. The vibe is welcoming and low-key. No territorial behavior reported.

Access & Facilities

Street parking is available near the beach access point, pay lots are common on this stretch of Pinellas County coast so carry cash or a card. No rentals on-site. Water is generally clean outside of seasonal red tide events. Keep clear of the jetty rocks, especially on bigger days with surge.

Nearby Alternatives

When Redington is too soft, Sunset Beach and Upham Beach to the south are the standard upgrades and typically offer more size and shape. Johns Pass, just south, can produce powerful and bigger surf on strong swells and is worth checking on the same run.
