Captiva Island's northernmost break sits behind the gates of a ritzy private resort, and that exclusivity is the whole story here. Redfish Pass picks up NW swell and works best fall through spring, with hurricane season occasionally pumping it into something worth chasing. Low incoming tide is the call, and light winds after the NW push that generates the swell. Expect thigh-high to just overhead, running smaller than the rest of the island but cleaner when the conditions align. Bottom is sand, so no reef hazards, but the real danger is getting thrown out or towed off the property. South Seas Plantation controls access, which means your realistic options are booking a room, arriving by boat, or taking your chances with resort security. Locals in this stretch of the southern Gulf are protective and the resident crowd skews wealthy, not welcoming. Bottom: Sand. Season: Fall through spring, plus hurricane pulses. Consistency: Low to moderate.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Virtually no one surfs here simply because getting in is so difficult. The surfers who do know it keep quiet deliberately, and the resident community is described as snobby rather than surf-friendly. Tread softly, park wisely, and do not assume the resort staff will look the other way. The localism rating is low on the water, high off it.

Access & Facilities

Drive north on Captiva until you reach South Seas Plantation. Getting past the gate without a reservation or a boat is the obstacle. A boat is genuinely the cleanest approach. No public parking, no public beach access at this end of the island. Sanibel and Captiva are connected to the mainland by a single toll road off Highway 41, which limits foot traffic across the whole area.

Nearby Alternatives

When Redfish Pass is locked behind the gate or flat, the rest of Captiva and Sanibel's west-facing beaches pick up the same NW swell with easier access. The Naples to Sanibel stretch generally runs consistent during the same fall-through-spring window, and Venice to the north offers a longer stretch of accessible beach breaks on the same swell.
