A well-shaped sandbar beneath the bluffs of Florida's Emerald Coast, Pompano Joe's delivers reliable beach break peaks year-round on a stretch of the Gulf that punches above its expectation. SE through SW swells are the engine here, with NW to NE winds cleaning things up. Best tide is low going high, and the wave works waist to overhead before the paddle becomes a genuine burn on bigger days. Both the inside and outside sandbar sections stay active across seasons, making this a flexible session regardless of swell size. Bottom: Sand. Season: Fall through spring, with hurricane swells adding size. Consistency: Good year-round. The boardwalk stairs down to the beach are the main hazard, so watch your footing, especially carrying a board.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Crowd pressure is minimal and the vibe is welcoming. This is not a spot where you'll feel territorial energy in the lineup. Dawn patrol is rarely necessary here for crowd reasons, though early light often brings cleaner conditions with less onshore breeze.

Access & Facilities

Large paved parking lot west of the break off Old Highway 98 East. Bathrooms and showers on site. The boardwalk stairs down to the sand are the one hazard worth flagging, particularly on the way back up with a waterlogged board.

Nearby Alternatives

The Emerald Coast has consistent beach break running in both directions along Highway 98. When Pompano Joe's is blown out onshore, check further east or west for any angle of bank that might be picking up a cleaner corner.
