A sandbars-and-space-center beachbreak inside Canaveral National Seashore, Playalinda is the go-to wave for Titusville surfers who are cut off from the rest of Brevard County's breaks by Kennedy Space Center. NE to SE swells are the sweet spot, with SW or W winds cleaning things up, an incoming tide packs the most punch, though it surfs across all tides. Skill range runs beginner to advanced depending on swell size, with hurricane pulses stepping things up for more experienced surfers. The park's scale means crowds spread out, and local vibe is relaxed. Bottom: sand. Season: fall through spring, with hurricane swell windows in summer and fall. Consistency: high. When a N swell is blocked from reaching the southern Brevard beaches by the Cape itself, Playalinda becomes the obvious call, especially on SW winds.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

The beach is large enough to absorb moderate crowds, and it's possible to find a peak to yourself even on decent swells, though the best sandbars will attract company. The vibe is genuinely welcoming with minimal local pressure. New Smyrna Beach draws most out-of-area traffic, leaving Playalinda quieter by default.

Access & Facilities

Entry fee required. Restrooms and parking lot on site. Open year-round but closures occur around rocket launches from Kennedy Space Center, so call ahead at 321-267-1110. Note: the northern end of the beach is a designated nude beach.

Nearby Alternatives

New Smyrna Beach to the north is consistently better and worth the drive when Playalinda is flat. Cocoa Beach to the south offers more amenities and a wider range of peaks along the same stretch of Central Florida coast.
