Peaky beach break on Florida's Space Coast, Picnic Tables sits just south of Cocoa Beach inside Patrick Air Force Base territory, where the first coquina outcroppings begin showing up along the shoreline. NE to E swell is the primary engine here, with ENE the sweet spot, and a W wind cleans it up nicely. Best from thigh-high to overhead, it runs most reliably through fall, winter, and spring, with the occasional hurricane swell pushing it into legitimate territory. The sandbar throws up rights and lefts in equal measure, making it friendly for all ability levels, from longboarders cruising to shortboarders looking for a quick performance section. Weekdays stay mellow with room to spread out, weekends on a good peak can pack the lineup. Bottom: sand with coquina rock patches. Season: fall through spring plus hurricane pulses. Consistency: moderate. Watch the submerged rocks near the water's edge when paddling in and out.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekday crowds are light. Weekends on a working swell bring families, groms, bodyboarders, and shortboarders all sharing the same peaks. The vibe is welcoming and military-base polite: keep it respectful, give way when appropriate, and you'll have no issues. Dawn patrol is the obvious move on weekends if you want space.

Access & Facilities

Straight off A1A heading south from Cocoa Beach, first dirt parking lot on the left. On-site pavilion with picnic tables, showers, and bathrooms makes this a full-day option. Water runs clean, though it can go murky after rain or on heavy swells stirring up the bottom.

Nearby Alternatives

If Picnic Tables is blown out or maxed, First and Second Light and Hangers are nearby options within the same Patrick AFB stretch offering comparable beach-break peaks. Further south, the coquina reefs toward Indialantic add more structure on the right conditions.
