Coquina and worm rock reefs give Pelican Beach Park a character that stands out along the otherwise flat Brevard County coastline in Satellite Beach, Florida. NE to E swell is the sweet spot, ideally 3-6ft with a W wind keeping faces clean. Low to mid tide produces the best results, though high tide can work on bigger days. Intermediate surfers will find plenty to work with on the open-faced rights and lefts, and the moderate crowds thin quickly when conditions are average. Bottom: mixed sand and coquina/worm rock. Season: fall through spring, with hurricane swells adding juice in summer and early fall. Consistency: above average for the Space Coast. The coquina reef bottom is not razor-sharp like tropical coral, but a bad wipeout in shallow water still hurts, so booties are worth considering if you're unfamiliar with the bottom. Large fish, including sharks, occasionally patrol along the rocks, which is normal for the area but worth keeping in mind.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Lineup pressure is moderate and the vibe is welcoming by Florida standards. It fills up fast when conditions align, given that quality surf in Brevard County is genuinely rare, but off-peak sessions can feel surprisingly empty. Dawn patrol is a reliable strategy when a swell arrives.

Access & Facilities

Public beach access with a large, free parking lot, including EV charging stations. No long walk or tricky paddle-out. Water quality is generally clean. Watch for coquina and worm rock in the shallower sections, especially at lower tides.

Nearby Alternatives

If Pelican Beach Park is maxing out or the sandbar isn't cooperating, the broader Satellite Beach area has additional reef-assisted peaks worth checking. Sebastian Inlet, roughly 20km south, is the most powerful option in the region and handles bigger swells better, though crowds and localism are significantly heavier there.
