An outer reef A-frame off Cabarete's kite-dominated shoreline, Kite Beach delivers serious power when N-NE swells push 4-15ft into the Dominican Republic's north coast. Optimal conditions call for N to NE swell, SW offshore winds, and the wave runs clean at all tides. Rights are the priority out here, long and walling with enough face to work, though the left has its moments on the right swell angle. The paddle is roughly 15 minutes from shore, so strong paddlers only need apply. Crowds are minimal in the morning but kiteboarders take over Cabarete Bay from midday onward, making the channel a busy zone. Bottom: submerged reef. Season: north Atlantic swell season, Nov-Mar. Consistency: medium. Arrive at dawn to log uninterrupted sets before the kite circus begins and be prepared to hold your position against a persistent current that can drift you off the peak.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Mornings are genuinely uncrowded at the outer reef. By midday, kiteboarders on the Kitesurfing World Tour circuit launch from the beach and cross through Cabarete Bay in force, making the paddle out and the channel hazardous. SUP sessions fill the inner water simultaneously. Get out early or accept a kite-dodging session.

Access & Facilities

Free parking is available and camping facilities are on site. The paddle-out is approximately 15 minutes. No pollution concerns, but the current demands a confident ocean swimmer. Keep your lineup reference locked on a landmark onshore or you will drift significantly between sets.

Nearby Alternatives

When Kite Beach is too big or the current is unmanageable, Encuentro beach to the west offers a cluster of reef and beach breaks including La Derecha's long walling rights and La Izquierda's punchier left, both better suited to a range of skill levels. Bozo Beach near Punta Goleta handles a similar swell window with a faster, heavier shorebreak if you want a change of scenery.
