A reliable combo rock-and-sand break on Florida's Treasure Coast, Jensen Beach sits between the more-respected Stuart Rocks and Walton Rocks and punches above its reputation. NE groundswells are the target, with N swell also working well, and SSW to WNW winds keeping things clean. Low to incoming tide is the move, particularly when swell is big enough to load up on the outside coquina reef. It suits beginners through intermediates, though the reef underneath demands at least basic ocean awareness. The lineup sees moderate crowd pressure year-round, and while localism is comparatively mild for the Treasure Coast, the Treasure Coast in general runs territorial. Bottom: mixed reef and sand. Season: September through March. Consistency: medium. One genuine strength here is the break's ability to make something rideable out of messy windchop that would close out cleaner sand-only beaches nearby.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Expect a moderate crowd whenever the surf is rideable. Jensen Beach is reputedly the least localized spot on the Treasure Coast, but that is relative. The Treasure Coast carries a generally territorial vibe, so give respect and read the lineup before paddling straight to the peak. Dawn patrol reduces friction.

Access & Facilities

Free car park on-site. Lifeguard service is available. Water quality is historically clean, passing tests over 95% of the time. Hazards include sharks, exposed rock and coquina reef, and Florida's frequent lightning. Check the sky as aggressively as the swell.

Nearby Alternatives

When Jensen is too small or closed out, Stuart Rocks to the south offers more defined reef structure on the same NE swell. Walton Rocks to the north is another option on bigger NE pulses and tends to hold more size.
