A jetty-shaped peak on Miami's northern coastline, Haulover Inlet breaks where the Haulover Cut meets the Atlantic, producing short, punchy peaks that work from knee-high to overhead-plus. SW to SE swells wrap into the inlet entrance on low to mid tide, and a light NW or W offshores wind cleans up the faces. Rideable from under 1ft to 8ft-plus, though the sweet spot sits in the 2-5ft range where the jetty banks produce workable walls. Beginners can join in on small days, but the inlet current and weekend swimmers demand situational awareness from everyone. Bottom: sand and structure. Season: Oct-Apr for consistency. Consistency: moderate to good during swell windows. Paddle wide of the jetty tip on incoming tide, as the current pulls hard toward the rocks and the inlet channel is no place to swim against.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekdays are mellow with a small crew. Weekends see a full beach and a genuinely crowded lineup, with the added hazard of intoxicated swimmers drifting into the break from nearby BBQ areas. Call your drop loudly, especially on the inside. The crowd is friendly overall, Spanish-speaking surfers are common, and the vibe is social rather than territorial.

Access & Facilities

Reachable via A1A between Sunny Isles and Bal Harbor. Southbound drivers turn right at the kite shop and pass under the bridge. Northbound, pull into the park after the bridge crossing. South-side parking is expensive. Showers are available at the north exit. No surf rentals noted at the break itself.

Nearby Alternatives

When Haulover is flat or blown out, the beach breaks along Sunny Isles to the north pick up similar swells and offer more spread-out peaks with less current exposure. South Beach and 1st Street can also be worth checking if a larger swell is running through.
