Four hundred yards north of Stuart Rocks on Hutchinson Island, Fletcher's breaks over a coral outcropping that can produce surprisingly long right and left rides when conditions line up. A solid NE to NNE swell in the 4-6ft range at low tide or the first hours of the flood is the sweet spot: waves peel all the way inside before shutting down on the shallow inner reef. Offshore winds from the WNW clean things up considerably. This wave suits a wide range of surfers, from newer riders building confidence to experienced shortboarders dodging the crowds at Stuart Rocks next door. Bottom: reef and sand. Season: fall through spring, with hurricane swells adding bonus windows. Consistency: moderate, limited by the spot's tendency to close out in bigger surf. The inside reef is genuinely shallow at low tide, so don't straighten out late on a set wave.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekend swells bring a moderate crowd, but the vibe stays mellow. Surfers here know they chose Fletcher's over the Rocks for a reason, and the wider peak spreads people out. Localism is minimal. Standard lineup etiquette is enough to get along fine. If Stuart Rocks is shoulder-to-shoulder, this is the sensible overflow option without the attitude.

Access & Facilities

Head east from I-95 toward the beaches, follow the signs to A1A, and head south through Indian River Plantation. Fletcher's and Stuart Rocks are about two miles south of the stoplight. From the north, approach via the South Causeway in Fort Pierce. Free parking is available but leave nothing visible in the car as break-ins and vehicle theft are reported here. Water quality is clean.

Nearby Alternatives

Stuart Rocks, just 400 yards south, is the more consistent and better-formed option when crowds are manageable. On days when both spots are closing out in oversized swell, explore other Hutchinson Island setups further north toward Fort Pierce.
