A beach break wedging off the north side of Deerfield Pier, this spot serves up short, punchy peaks along one of South Florida's most accessible stretches of A1A. It fires best on strong SE windswells or the occasional E swell pushed through the Providence Channel during hurricanes tracking toward the Bahamas. NE and ESE swells also produce rideable surf, though shape tends toward the mushy end. Low and incoming tide is the sweet spot. Best size runs waist-high to just overhead. All skill levels paddle out here, but beginners should know the lineup gets competitive on weekends and crowds thin patience fast. Bottom is mostly sand with scattered reef patches on the outside. Season runs fall through spring for the most consistent activity. Surfing is restricted to the north side of the pier only, so check the rules before paddling out and never leave gear unattended in the parking area.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekdays are manageable. Weekends tip into ultra-crowded territory fast, drawing locals, tourists, and learners all competing for the same short walls. The vibe is broadly described as doable with light local pressure, but patience matters. Dawn patrol on weekdays is the obvious move for less chaos.

Access & Facilities

Deerfield Pier sits directly on A1A, hard to miss. Surfing is permitted on the north side only. Metered parking runs $1/hour along the waterfront, side streets absorb overflow. Island Water Sports nearby handles rentals. Watch for man-of-war and sea lice in the water, both common. Sharks are present, standard for South Florida. Water quality is clean despite the surrounding density.

Nearby Alternatives

When Deerfield is blown out or too crowded, Pompano Beach and Hillsboro Beach are within striking distance along A1A and respond to similar swell and wind conditions. Fort Lauderdale's beach breaks are also within an hour if you want to spread out across Broward County.
