Ponte Vedra's sandbars shift constantly, making Crossroads a shape-chaser's game on Florida's northeast coast, about 10 miles south of Jacksonville Beach. NE to SE swells in the 2-6ft range are the sweet spot, with W winds keeping faces clean and mid-to-high tide filling in the inside sections. The break works for all skill levels when conditions align, though weekends draw moderate crowds that can stack up in the better peaks. Bottom: sand. Season: September through February. Consistency: moderate, with storms and northeasters reshaping sandbars every few years. Water reads murky but natural tannins from local rivers are mostly to blame, not pollution. Bring sandals for the shell-heavy beach and stay alert for jellyfish close to shore. Sharks are present in this stretch of coast, standard Florida risk, and worth keeping in mind especially at dawn and dusk.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Weekdays stay quiet with only a few surfers out. Weekends bring heavier numbers, especially when Jacksonville Beach is blown out or flat. Locals treat the lineup as low-key and the vibe is generally easygoing. Arrive early if you want space during a good swell window.

Access & Facilities

Park in the green-fenced lot off A1A at Micklers Landing and walk to the beach. The lot is straightforward to find. Watch for shells underfoot on the sand and come prepared with water, as facilities are minimal. The surrounding neighborhood is residential and upscale, so keep things respectful.

Nearby Alternatives

When Crossroads is flat or too crowded, the rest of the Ponte Vedra stretch offers additional sandbar peaks spread across 10 miles of coast. Jacksonville Beach to the north picks up similar swell and has more amenities, though it also draws bigger crowds.
