A fast, hollow inside beachbreak on Perdido Key, Bungalows sits inside the Gulf Islands National Seashore at the western edge of Florida's Panhandle, bordered by Alabama to the west and Pensacola Bay to the east. It works best on E, SE, and S swells with NW, N, or NE offshores, and performs across a waist-to-overhead size range at low-to-incoming tide when the inside section gets hollow and quick. The lineup welcomes all skill levels, though the fast inside can catch beginners off guard on bigger days, and crowds run medium-to-heavy given the accessible parking and boardwalk entry. Bottom: sand. Season: fall through spring with hurricane swells the standout. Consistency: moderate, typical of Panhandle beachbreak. Pack a fish or shortboard depending on the day, and check the forecast after a named storm tracks nearby for the best sand-bank setups.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Crowds run medium to heavy, especially on weekends and any day a decent swell shows. The local vibe is welcoming with no reported localism pressure. Expect Alabama and Pensacola crews sharing the lineup without drama. Dawn patrol or late-afternoon sessions ease the numbers on busy summer weekends.

Access & Facilities

Park in the East Beach access lot inside Perdido Key State Recreation Area off State Road 292 and follow the boardwalk straight to the beach. Water quality is clean, characteristic of the emerald-toned Gulf coast. No major hazards beyond the energetic inside section on bigger swells. Nearby Pensacola Bay outflow can murk the water slightly after heavy rain.

Nearby Alternatives

If Bungalows is blown out or too crowded, the miles of barrier island beach within Gulf Islands National Seashore offer other sandbars worth checking on the same swell. Pensacola Beach breaks to the east respond to similar E-SE swell windows and provide more spread-out options when the Perdido Key lot fills up.
