A left-hand point tucked below the Punta La Farola lighthouse delivers the best of what Puerto Eten offers, wrapping SW swell around rocks to produce walls that run a few hundred metres on a good day. Optimal conditions are S to SW swell in the 2-8ft range, offshore NE winds, and a low-to-mid tide to keep the walls clean and peeling. The adjacent beach sections north of the old pier are mushier and more forgiving, making the town accessible to a range of intermediates, though the point is the clear draw. Bottom: mixed reef and sand. Season: southern hemisphere autumn through winter for consistent S/SW groundswell. Consistency: medium. Bring a board that can handle both point walls and softer beach peaks, a mid-length or hybrid covers both scenarios without wasted paddle time between the two setups.

About this break

What it's actually like

Crowd & Localism

Crowds are intermittent. The point draws more attention when it is properly firing on solid SW groundswell, but it never reaches the pressure levels of Chicama or Huanchaco to the north. A respectful approach in the lineup is standard practice anywhere along this coast.

Access & Facilities

Parking is free near the town waterfront. There are no dedicated surf facilities on site, so arrive self-sufficient with water and food. The pier area and lighthouse point are easy to reach on foot once you have parked. No reported pollution or hazards, though the rocky sections at the point warrant footwear on the way in.

Nearby Alternatives

When Puerto Eten is flat or blown out, the La Libertad region offers better options to the north. Chicama is the benchmark long left of the region and handles larger, more powerful swell. Pacasmayo is another long left that tends to work on similar S to SW groundswell windows and is worth the drive when conditions align.
